CFL electronics fail too, in fact that seems to fail
before the actual
And people tell me that soiid-state electronics lasts 'for ever'
tube gives up...they don't like being base up for
one thing.
OK, well still have separate tube and electronics, so you can replace
just the electronics when it fails (thus reducing the amount of mercury
let loose). Or of course provide a scheamtic of the electronics module,
so to can be _repaired_ :-)
Seems to me that the tube should be able to last a
long time...I have a
Neon Christmas tree that was made in the 1930's by my grandfathers
employees that stil works just fine - why can't a fluorescent bulb that
has no heater last indefinetly?
Well, the electrodes will be damaged in time (even if there is no heater)
-- things like NE2s do blacken in the end. And the gas will (very slowly)
difuse through the glass. Oh, and the phosphor will probably degrade/
