Did anyone here learn Fortran from, or just read, any
book called "Fortran
for Humans" or "Fortran 77 for Humans"?
I just found out: The CS prof I've been spending so much time with for the
last two years, Rex Page, was the principal author of this book. If anyone
has memories of it (good or bad :-), I bet he would get a kick out of
hearing about it at our next meeting.
Almost 20 years ago, I taught Fortran using that book. It was before I
had tenure, so the textbook choice was not my decision.
We were using IBM's Microsoft Fortran. It was the first time that I had
used any compiler whose output was SLOWER than an interpreter.
