I contacted the seller after seeing the expansion cabinet he also listed, to see if he
happened to have a VAX-11/780 sitting about that I might take off his hands. He informed
me that he used the cabinet from one to build a wine cabinet as a retirement gift for a
friend. I believe this listing is the machine's gut pile, and the expansion cabinet is
another leftover. I think he mentioned that it took him around a decade to find it.
It's too bad that he murdered the machine. It's a bit tempting to me since I have
a silly dream of having a VAX-11/780 someday, but I don't feel motivated enough to
pick up this pile in hopes of finding a nice wine cabinet with a VAX backplane to plug it
all in to someday.
