Back then too having more than 64kb of memory was real feat. Looking
back in hindsite most the unix tools I think from that era were 64k code
and 64k data. Something 16 bit computers could handle but not much more.
Remember 8086 segment registers.?? The lack of free open source C
compiler was problem too.
