I think we're on the same page here. I suppose it
would be fair to
say that the folks who would use closed data formats to preserve
data do not actually care about data preservation, so I didn't quite
answer the question you asked. :-)
Not necessarily so much of "do not actually care", but definitely "unclear
on the concept".
Our college administration mandated that ALL documents be Word Pervert.
Now, they ALL must be Microsoft Weird.
THEY have no idea that "test" EXISTS!
