It was moved by movers from one city to another and
I'd bet got
bounced about enough to loosen a connector inside the printer.
Especially as it had been working before being packed.
I thought this likely enough too. I opened it up and looked at some of
the most easily accessible connectors; none of them showed signs of
trouble. Given the quote, I think I should disassemble it more
thoroughly and check, among other things, all the connectors - but that
will take more time and space than I have available right now, so it
gets deferred for an as-yet-indefinite "later". :(
