I don't know why but I'd always heard or thought that the Apple LCD was ultra rare
unobtainium. ?I remember years ago fights over them going into $1000+. ? Maybe turned ?out
to not be so rare?

Well, most IIc's that have sold on ebay recently have gone for $40-50...
This Apple-branded flat-panel display recently went for $355, with box.
