I got this stuff at an auction for 12 euro. It's

Although the Z80 based device is on-topic, I am particularly interrested
to find out how to use the depth sounder. It has only 2 wires, so I
assume it is some sort of element that is both an actuator and a sensor?
Has anyone any info on this stuff?
The transducer is a lowrance electronics TTH 1192-8.
I don't have any info on that in particular, but I can all but
guarantee that it's a simple sonar/echo timer system. The same
transducer is used for transmission and reception.
This is pretty similar to the once-common Polaroid ranging systems
built into some "instant" cameras; many of these were repurposed for
non-photographically-related ranging applications, and Polaroid sold
eventually started selling them in development kits for all sorts of stuff.
I pulled one out of a defunct instant camera and turned it into an
"electronic tape measure" many years ago:

The principles behind sonar depth sounders are mostly identical.
