The pdp11/34a is a hog, though; the month I started
working on that one
the power bill went to $75.
You should try my PDP11/45 system - 8 demountable hard disks, magtape, a
couple of expansion boxes, paper tape, etc. It probably pulls about 4kW in
total.
Fortunately I'm in the UK, where we have 240V mains, and where the
standard mains circuit is a 30A ring main. That's 7.2kW (or thereabouts),
and I have such a circuit just for my computer room. Of course that
doesn't affect the cost of running it, but at least it means I can run up
these larger machines from time to time.
