would this in any way to be related to the IBM PC 'ED' disks?
the 2.1MB floppies that were out for a while?
I have some floppies of that format, not totally sure if I still have the drive though.

I've never seen one, but it's logical to suppose that a double-speed
drive that handles 1.3MB media has been made. I'd expect to find it
in Japan moreso than the West, however, since the Japanese used to be
pretty much wedded to the NEC 9801 series archtecture that used 360
RPM drives for everything.
