You can conduct simplified etching by encapsulating a piece of copper/brass w/packing tape, almost any type will work, and cut out shapes and whatnot w/an exacto knife. Then you submerse it in etchant. Depending on how well the tape/adhesive adheres, and how long you keep it in there, you may have good success. It works and is reasonably precise. But although I know who Napier was, I don't know what is meant by "bones", so I don't know if it's suitable for these purposes. .
