Brass engraving has been practiced for hundreds of years, so that
would be my choice.? Here's an example of some fairly modern stuff:

C: Again I haven't followed this thread from the beginning. You can conduct simplified
etching by encapsulating a piece of copper/brass w/packing tape, almost any type will
work, and cut out shapes and whatnot w/an exacto knife. Then you submerse it in etchant.
Depending on how well the tape/adhesive adheres, and how long you keep it in there, you
may have good success. It works and is reasonably precise. But although I know who Napier
was, I don't know what is meant by "bones", so I don't know if it's
suitable for these purposes.
