computers came in about the same time that the -or version of spelling was

I just checked in the dictionary I have here from 1959, which is too
early to have computer in the modern sense in it - but it does contain
computer in the sense of "one employed to make calculations in an
observatory etc."
First recorded use of 'compute' is in 1631, incidentally.
No mention of 'computor', though.
