I'm just catching up on all of the new info..
thank you all very much for
the support!
I will accept ANY and ALL relevant data that I don't already have on the
Altair 8800. I have uploaded my entire cache of Altair 8800 data to my
shell, and it can be viewed / downloaded here:
http://nerp.net/~legendre/altair/
I'm getting refusal on permissions there.
If anything new shows up, I'll add it. TYIA - now
back to the machinery..
I'm going to pull the power for the term. network and see if that yields.
But one question for those who might know - how the HECK should the front
panel behave when NO cards are installed? Should it be able to walk the
(empty) memory space, and read it out to the D0-D7 display (which would be
all zeros).
I don't know enough about this to understand how
much and or what role(s)
the CPU/RAM cards play in the front panel operations - other than the
blatantly obvious, such as r or w actual memory locations, and so on.
This is all addressed in the previous messages, but in short:
- the CPU card is required to be able to 'set' the address LEDs,
- with no memory board you can expect the D0-D7 LEDS to be all 1s (on), not 0s.
