Novelty "Retro" Cell Phone Handset in an Acoustic Coupler?

I received the Viking DLE-300 that I bought on eBay, and finally played with it a bit today along with a pair of Model 500 phones that I bought (one red, one green!). It's a neat little box! It's too bad that it doesn't handle pulse dialing, but I have an old Radio Shack touch tone adapter in a box somewhere. For now I just have it switched to ring-down mode. Neat stuff! I haven't ried modeming through it yet. I tried dialing up several more retro dial-up BBSes with my Tandy Model 200, iPhone, silly retro handset, and acoustic adapter cups. No luck so far. When I can connect, I just get garbage on the screen. I may return the acoustic cups; they were owned by a smoker and they reek, despite being listed as "UNUSED!" in the eBay listing. -- Mark J.
