A high-school advanced math teacher once threatened to
hit me (no idle
threat, her face was contorted in anger) because I asked a math question,
about extending a concept into arbitrary dimensions. I kept my mouth shut
Fortunately I had very honest parents. They would not automatically
support me, but they would stand up for what they believed was right.
So, if I'd been punished at school for attacking somebody, playing
truant, vandalising the school, etc, then they would certainly have
supported the shcool (and probably punished me themselves). But if I'd
been punished _in any way_ for asking a serious question that was related
to the lesson, then all hell would have broken loose. The school would
not have known waht had hit them....
the rest of the semester, but the second
semester's instructor actually
LOVED math and would do extra research to ask our oddball questions.
You were very lucky...
