I did wonder why the SIMH TAP had no header, basically saying what's in

It turns out that it requires the
"unpadded" TAP file. (I guess that's
E11). Nothing like a standard...
Supnik did that in SIMH with his extensions to .tap
Of course, no one bothered to put a version or magic number in .tap
images. I had argued to put a trailer record
with more information after the physical EOF record that was added, but
was ignored.
There is also .tpc which only has a 16 bit record length at the front,
and AWSTAPE that the IBM guys use. In my wildest nightmares, I never thought that
6RM would come back to
haunt me...
