Yes, because the monitor port on Macs already had been DB15-F, years before Macs with
Onboard-Ethernet came to life. Apple was eager to keep setting up Macs as easy as
possible. That includes distinct connectors for distinct functions.
Size was also a consideration. Standard AUI connectors would ill fit on PowerBooks.
