Perhaps a simple disclaimer before each message stating something to the
effect of, "The message below is from an archive of a mailing list.

very old and not relevant any longer. You should also know that any
message sent in reply to this one will be posted to the mailing list, and
will most likely not result in any useful contact. You should consider
subscribing to the mailing list and then posting your question properly."
Put it in red and a slightly larger font.
