One last
thought... do any of the TRS-80 Model I emulators have serial
port support? Would this not solve your problem if they did, or is there
some real-world problem you're trying to solve?
It needs to run on the original TRS-80.
Would a Model III with a RS232C interface do the trick?
Maybe they're compatible enough and you might already have or be able
to find these? According to the Model III Operation Reference manual
they are almost identical from an assembly language programming
standpoint and most BASIC programs written for the Model I will run
on a Model III. The cassette interface was even made compatible
between the two.
