I have never seen an IBM one with a switch, I have a mushy model M clone
here with Honeywell's name on it with such a switch.
There is a comment in the AT tech ref that says that the keyboard
"listens" to clock and data lines to determine what the protocol is, but
there are no details, and I do not have a functional XT to try an IBM
model M on, but I do recall that when the Ms first came out there was a
separate XT version that did not have the LEDs.
