Yes. VERY IMPORTANT! Yet almost noone bothers to do it. NASA has tons
(literally) of data that is decaying into worthlessness, because they
didn't have viable plans for long-term retention.
This subject came up on comp.arch recently, and I posted a message stating
that if they aren't going to plan for data retention, I don't see why they
should waste my tax dollars to collect the data in the first place. I was
expecting to get flamed for that, but apparently no one must have strongly
disagreed.
