My 2p on that one... in a word, no. I wouldn't do it on something that
used lots of them. But it makes more sense to do it one a machine that
only uses two or three of them where the original reason for them being
there has gone away.
We may well even have a set of bristol spline tools at the museum (I was
taking this IBM apart at home at the time) - we do have a couple of
flexowriters (although no equipment actively using them). Of course the
Colossus uses one too, which suggests that their team probably have a
set (given the large amount of sponsorship they have, that seems highly
likely)
