The easy answer is "C" :-)
You can look at it at least two ways:
* C has the structure of Algol with most of the dirty tricks and efficiency
of FORTRAN.
* C derives from multiple paths -
One of these ia PL/I (which derives from Fortran, Algol, and COBOL)
Another is from B which comes from BCPL which comes from CPL which was
essentially an extended Algol
However it seems that the saying: "I don't know what language engineers will
use in the future, but I know they'll call it Fortran." has mostly
turned-out mistaken.
