Well, ethernet (PoE) is going that way, but in a bigger sense (ca.
44V at 350 ma.).
Most modern PCs will continue to supply power to the USB connectors
even when "off" (soft "off"), so mobile devices can be charged even
when the system isn't being used.
And USB as a cheap source of power makes all of those really cool
devices--shavers, foot warmers, fans, etc. possible.
