Both date before 1980 by a bit as they were my early aids to learning C
using TinyC on Z80-s100-CP/M and later BDS-C.
If one seriously wants hard cover it's still possible to find book
binders to make

low acid paper.
IF one is to bind a book longevity is one good reason to make the effort,
However my DEC Library are a lot of those pulp printed paper covers and
they are very useful and very worn as a result.
I have a number of 50$ plus books in paperback, the lack of hard covers
does not dilute the value of them as its their content that makes them worth
the price.
I've always said in case of fire open my room window and toss all the
books out,
I'll be out after that.

Yeah. $20 or $30 for a paperback is expensive. But $30 or $40 for
hardcover doesn't seem as unreasonable.
