Ohhhhh good heavens.
Well it's good to know where at least one completely clueless person
is, so I can avoid her!
Peralta Community College District has an UNLIMITED supply.
She retired a year and a half ago. They are "making progress" on
interviewing for a replacement.
I retired last week. The one remaining full-time librarian (who was
helpful in over-riding her veto because he trusted my "expert opinion")
has his hands full with a grossly under-staffed library.
I wonder whether anybody is going to anonymously inform the accreditation
commission (cf.: City College Of San Francisco)
15 years ago, I was "successful" in fighting the exact same battle with
the college curriculum committee. They had a RULE that all textbooks had
to be less than 5 years old! I succeeded in pushing through K&R as a
"recommended/not required" book for the C class, and even got a policy
change for the entire school to permit older books if the instructor
explicitly uses the phrase "classic work in the field".
