Aren't
some types of media nickel-based? Or is that just the
substrate over the aluminum or glass platter, between that and the
FeO2?
Nickel-cobalt alloy, usually, sputtered onto a phosphorous-nickel
electroless coating (phosphorous-nickel isn't magnetic; pure nickel
is, slighly). Some sort of protective coating is usually deposited
onto the nickel-cobalt.
There are also high-performance multi-layer coatings.
Aren't pretty much all the perpendicular-recording coatings multi-layer?
