Well, you're not alone - I got my Plus (which
still needs a keyboard*, if
anyone has one) only a month or so ago and your description sounded oddly
familiar :-) I'd stared at mine for a good few minutes trying to decide
whether I really wanted to dig inside right then to look for a CRT fault or
wait for later, when a very hazy memory (I last used one of these in 1992)
had reminded me of the brightness control.
I'm very relieved to hear it's not just me.
I've dug out a matching Apple HD20SC to go with it, which makes
encouraging noises but the machine doesn't actually boot from it. It
also won't boot from an old external I had lying around which I am
fairly sure has an install of System 6.0.8 on it.
So I am now trying to resurrect a /different/ old Mac in order to
create some 800kB boot floppies for the Mac+...
BTW, yes, I do indeed have a spare Mac+ keyboard. And mouse. And,
oddly, an external numeric keypad - oddly because both the Mac+
keyboards I have are the extended type with numeric keypads.
Anyway, once I've got the Plus running & can verify (or otherwise) the
working condition of the keyboards and mice, then all, I fear, will be
destined for eBay... Sadly I just need the money.
When I list the keyboard, I'll let you know. It will be on the usual
basis of 1p + postage & see if anyone bites.
Currently, I have an assortment of stuff and a total of about ?5.50's
worth of bids across 5 items. This is definitely not making me rich.
