I did have a comparatively-recent [plastic] processor fan die on me the
other week; one of the blades actually parted company with the hub, jammed
in the heatsink below, and locked everything solid - a failure type I've
not seen before. Maybe they don't make them like they used to... :-)
I had an old fan die in somewhat similar way. It had a Papst-type
(external rotor) motor, the blandes were a plastic mouding that could be
described has having a hollow cyclidriacl cetnre (which was pressed over
the outisde of the rotor) with the 3 bl;ades integrally moulded with it.
Anywy, the cylindrical section split down one side so that the blades
fell off the rotor. That was one I didn't fix (althohgh I did use some of
the parts as sapres ofr other siliar fans).
