The last time I remember actually having to fight to get X to work on
Linux was back before 2000, when one still had to fiddle with modelines
under certain circumstances.

Linux is a great server OS, but it's not a great desktop. Never was.
It's better than it used to be but it's still not great. It's good
enough, no more.
I never could get X-Windows to work well when I played with Linux.
Have they fixed the apps to work yet with PC screen formats.
