I have no issue with those. They're more "general-purpose
microcontroller boards". I'm complaining about people using
*development* boards for stuff like that. Development boards
typically have a lot more onboard peripherals and such. Stuff like
the Olimex LPC development boards, for example.

Very true. It
seems that many people think development boards
are "ready made microcontroller boards". I can't tell you how
many development boards I've seen mounted in permanent,
application-specific chassis. That kind of idiocy makes me ill.
