I don't care _at all_ for the hardware design of
the machines I've looked
at (Apple ][ and early Macs).

We must remember that, at that time, it was a HUGE progress on floppies.
IIRC, Woz did with 5 ICs what was done with 11 or more, and made the 5
1/4 floppy WAY cheaper. It was some simple idea, but a wonderfull
achievement anyways. I have lots of respect for Woz, because of his hacks.
It was a way to make the floppy drive more popular, and he was very
successfull on that.
