Yes, you want to attmept to neutralise the electrolyte. For an acidic
electrolyte (e.g. from a lead-acid battery), try something like sodium
carbonate (washing soda). For an alkaline electrolyte (e.g. from a NiCd),
you want a chemically weak acid. I normally use citric acid, it smells
nicer than vinegar :-).
