are not an equivalent, or a replacement.
A lot of people seem to consider them a functional equivalent,
replacement, whatever, for many purposes. I don't like it any more than you seem to.
But that's one of the
directions the computer world has gone these days - and one of the
reasons I'm getting more and more depressed about being more and more
out of step with more and more of it.
Eh, I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Smart people will continue to
do things in reasonable ways. The idiots can twist in the wind. My port 25
will always answer.
