To be fair, the worst offenders of "plug stuff anywhere that the plug
fits" were "Professors of Computer Science"
The Microsoft "Bus Mouse" (1st original green-eyes) had an interface card
with a DE-9 female. There were some who refused to believe that it was
not appropriate to plug it and the monitor (CGA/MDA/EGA) in randomly and
swap around until it worked or could never again work.
