JCL too. It had something to do with how the 701(!) read in data, into
two 36-bit words... I think most S/360 languages did it this way.
Possibly for OS/360 (which I never used), but certainly not for DOS. When I
was an operator, we used to turn JCL cards around, so we could see cards
like
