You, too? I think that is a factor for lots of us.
On the list of things to buy:
PDP-8 (I think I want an original but might take an -8S)
They don't cost more now than they do when they were new (few things
we collect do), but they are closer to the old prices than they used
to be ($15,000 USD and $9,995 USD, respectively). I was offered
$1,500 USD for one of my Straight-8s (Classic-8 or "original") many
years ago (before the .com boom), and it doesn't even have console TTY
interface. I do not know what one would sell for now. I don't really
want to know; it is not for sale.
Well, I was out at a History of Computing talk given at the DECUS LUG this
evening and in chatting to one of the attendees, he'd just been given (yes,
given) a straight 8. He might have an 8E or 8S that he can "loan" me as
long as I get it running, so I might be one more system down on the list of
things to get.
I guess I should add an AlphaBook to the list of (more recent) things I
lust after....
