I have a huge backlog of 8" hard-sectored floppies to start working

Do you have enough web space for archiving track samples?
root at daedalus [~]# df -h

Answer: "Yes."
The day I run out of space on my web server will be a pretty cold day in
hell.
Any thoughts of what the format of the raw files will
be?
xDIF. It's an extensible tagged-hierarchical file format -- a bit like
TIFF, but with 64-bit file pointers. The format is still under
development, though...
I'm adding support for reading CWIF files from Chuck Guzis's software,
and adding write support wouldn't be hard... so that's another option.
What format did you have in mind?
Thanks,
