I bought a Fujitsu 9.1GB 80 pin SCA drive and attempted
to connect this to the
VAX via an 80 - 50 pin converted but the drive was not recognised properly by
either the boot rom or OpenVMS.
A couple things are needed the main thing is that you need to be
running a new enough version of OpenVMS for it to work fairly well
with 3rd party drives. The other is that if you're using an
SCA-to-50pin converter, the drive can't be to new. Apparently the
latest SCSI drives don't like syncing down to Narrow SCSI :^(
