My reaction was that either one was a dumb choice. Sure, it would
appeal to retro geeks like us, but of what use will it be in the "real
world" [*]? Once upon a time there was a lot of educational software
for the Apple II, but aside from buying individual titles on eBay, where
are you going to get any of it (legally) today?
Besides, although the 6502 was a reasonably decent processor in the
mid-to-late 1970s, today it won't be any less expensive than an ARM 7 or
the like.
It seems to me that trying to do further cost reduction of an XO-like
device would be more beneficial.
