However, you can get reasonably-priced used AS/400's off eBay pretty
regularly. I've had my eye out for a 9401 for some time, but I usually
miss out on the auctions. The 9401 is unfortunately the older, CISC-based
CPU, and therefore will only run OS/400 up through V3,
Also be warned that the OS/400 V3 or earlier on the CISC-based systems is
not transferrable without paying a transfer fee to IBM. If the machine
isn't powered on often enough, there's a key for the LIC that expires, and
you have to call IBM to get a new one, and they'll check the licensing.
OS/400 V4 or newer on the RISC-based machines is transferrable with the
machine.
