Rather is was some drive (don't know what kind, but MFM seems sensible
enough) that used a special adaptor board that enabled it to plug into
the disk drive port on a bunch of the older macs.
I looked in mine. It uses a Rodime 552 mechanism with a custom logic
board.
I'm currently backing up the data on it to try one more time to make it
work on a thin mac. I recalled being hesitant to try much since, at the
time, I didn't know what irreplacable relics of ancient software I'd be
losing. Once I found out it worked on a Plus, I discovered it had System 6
installed on it, which I realise now may be why it doesn't work with the
128k.
