Maybe you're thinking of the Zilog "official" part numbers. The 8400 was
the CPU, the 8430, the CTC; the 8470, the DART, etc.
I think I have some parts around that has some other company (SGS?) using that
sort of numbering as well. Though they did put "Z80-(whatver) on the package
as well.
