Having said that, I think that most of the problem is that for many of these
systems, those who are close enough to rescue them either don't have the
room or the interest. Those who aren't close and do have interest don't
have the financial means necessary or any way to arrange shipping. Plus
more often than not, people trying to get rid of stuff aren't willing to
take the time to ship.
Sure. And we aren't going to solve those problems. But we can alleviate
them by letting potential collectors more easily find out about systems
and ask for help in getting them home.
Jay, good to know a replacement system is "almost there".
I would note that I think to be effective, it should notify
in some way that doesn't require remembering to poll a web page;
email or possibly ATOM/RSS if enough of us will use something so
newfangled...
