Odd. The usual assumption is that the presence of an earth wire means
grounding is required, and using the device without one is a violation
of safety regulations. Then again, it's certainly possible that it
merely violates regulations, not reality.
On all three (okay, a small sample set) of the Thinkpad PSUs I've opened
up, the earth pin isn't connected, or is connected to a pad on the board
and nothing else.
