I've never seen a CRT-based colour TV or monitor without a degaussing
coil around the CRT flare and a little posistor circuit to produce a
decaying AC field at switch-on.
Even cheap brands, like Amstrad, had them over here.
Yep. Definitely had more than one that was permanently discolored because it didn't
have one (until I fixed it manually). I don't think our warranties cover that damage
(it'd be classified as abuse).
