Thanks Vassilis, Tony, Joe, and Mike. I've since figured out that the
top head is damaged (it's still there but its mounting has been
stressed so it doesn't sit quite right). Oh well, it's not all bad, I
have other working units for use and I guess I now have a known-bad
drive to on which to practice repair techniques, now all I need is time!
