I'm also have an 4000/90 and besides of the cabling to the console Port
you can run into a problem with an empty lithium Battery inside that Dallas
DS12xxx Chip on the mainboard. The machine is simply not starting at all
if the battry is empty.
You can try to get a new Dallas NVRAM Chip but it isn't unlikely that the
cell in the new one is empry also.
I've machines away some of the Epxoy from the chip to get access to the old
battery and soldered nad glued a socket for a CR2032 to the chip housing,
works flawlessly.
