That's nearly completely opposite to my experience among the Apple II crowd
in the midwest of the United States. Many of the Apple II enthusiasts
wanted the Lisa, but it was too expensive for them. When the Mac was
introduced, they were quick to adopt it.
Well, I was big into the Apple II but never purchased a Mac (I started
using a second hand Compaq luggable and adding my own hard drive before
moving on to assembling PC clones from parts.)
On the other hand I knew someone who was also very into the Apple II and
then moved on to Macs.
So in my limited experience it was pretty split.
