I think a good place for you to start is with the Small Device C Compiler
(
http://sdcc.sourceforge.net/ ) and see if that will fit your needs. It
supports 8048, 8051, etc.. family. Good luck.

Either one would be acceptable. I was looking for an alternative to
assembly. Like Dwight, I haven't found anything beyond assembler for
the 8048 but I was hoping someone on the list has bumped into something.
